Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation Grant

Summit Valley Band Awarded the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation Grant

Summit Valley School band students started the new school year, September 2012, with 10 new band instruments:  one baritone horn, two trombones, two trumpets, one saxophone, two clarinets, one flute and one snare drum kit. Christmas in September!  The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation grant is greatly appreciated at Summit Valley School!

The donations enable Summit Valley to provide a band program to students in grades 5-8.   The band program depends upon donations from the community, as well as the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to run their band program.  This is the second time Summit Valley School received support from the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. The first donation from MHOF was in the year 2005.  The students in the band program are enjoying the new instruments.  Come see the band play at one of our concerts!

The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation donates new and refurbished musical instruments to under-served schools, community music programs, and individual students nationwide, in an effort to give youngsters the many benefits of music education, help them to become better students, and inspire creativity and expression through playing music. The organization was inspired by the 1995 motion picture Mr. Holland’s Opus and founded by Michael Kamen, who composed the music for the movie and countless others.  In the last 16 years, over 15,000 new and refurbished instruments have been donated to 1,273 school and community music programs across the country.  More information can be found at
